18th SAARC Summit in Kathmandu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to Nepal from November 26 to 27 for the 18th SAARC Summit in Kathmandu.

Prime Minister Modi will be accompanied by the Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh. India will look at promoting regional cooperation and the collective development potential of the regional block at the Summit.

Schedule of events:

The joint-secretary level meet will be held on November 22, and the foreign secretary-level Standing Committee will meet on November 23 and 24. Meeting of the SAARC Council of Ministers is scheduled for November 25, while November 26 is the Summit day.

The Summit will be inaugurated by the host country – Nepal, who will also take over as the chair on November 26. The session will see with the heads of state and government addressing the gathering.

On November 27, the Summit Declarations will be announced followed by a retreat for the regional leaders. Over 300 VVIPs and VIPs from member states—Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Afghanistan—and nine observer countries will attend the summit.

Prime Minister Modi will also have a bilateral meet with the Prime Minister of Nepal on November 26 on the sidelines of the Summit.
