Security, Governments, and Data: Technology and Policy

On January 8, Gateway House’s Sameer Patil participated in a conference on ‘Security, Governments, and Data: Technology and Policy’ hosted by the Centre for Internet and Society, Bangalore in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi. 

The conference focused on the technologies, policies, and practices around cyber security and surveillance. The meet brought together a number of key stakeholders including civil society, industry, law enforcement, government, and academia. 

Sameer Patil was a panelist on the discussion titled ‘Security and Architecture’ which explored the present surveillance practices by Indian security agencies and the way forward for data collection.

Sameer Patil is Associate Fellow, National Security, Ethnic Conflict & Terrorism studies, Gateway House. Prior to this, he was Assistant Director at the National Security Council Secretariat in Prime Minister’s Office, New Delhi. Sameer has interned at the Indian Pugwash Society and the M. L. Sondhi Institute of Asia Pacific Affairs. He has written extensively on various aspects of national security including cyber security, fake currency, terrorism, India-Pakistan relations, India-China relations, the Kashmir issue and nuclear proliferation for various magazines, journals and newspapers.
