Reassessing the Libor and Brent benchmarks

Reassessing the Libor and Brent benchmarks

The investigations into the globally referenced benchmarks such as LIBOR, FX and Brent have raised questions about the integrity of the assessment process and the institutions that govern them. The news came as a shock for countries such as India that depend on these benchmarks for financial planning and business operations. Both developed and developing countries took collective steps to address this issue under the mandate of the G20.

Jane Diplock, Sunil Jagtiani and Gateway House’s Manjeet Kripalani took part in a roundtable discussion to analyse the weaknesses in the financial architecture, the geopolitical developments that influence reforms, and the regulatory measures required to restore credibility of the institutions involved.

This meeting was the 2nd in Gateway House’s Economic & Business Series.

Jane Diplock is a professional international company director. She currently holds non executive directorship positions on the International Integrated Reporting Council Board,  SGX Limited and Australian Financial Services Group Pty Limited. She is a member on a number of other Boards and Committees internationally.  She has previously been Chairman of IOSCO, International Organisation of Securities Commissions for 7 years and Chairman of New Zealand Securities Commission for 9 years.

Sunil has more than 14 years of experience working in the field of journalism, as a reporter, editor and correspondent, with organizations such as Agence France-Presse in Hong Kong. He has a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge.
