Challenges in the Indian Ocean

Challenges in the Indian Ocean

Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations hosted an interactive discussion with Ambassador Mohamed Osman Omar, former Somali Ambassador to India, the Republic of Sudan, and former Yugoslavia.  Michael Pinto, former Secretary of Shipping,  moderated the panel discussion on the maritime security in the Indian Ocean, which is threatened by the growth of international piracy that occurs mainly on the coast of Somalia.

The discussion ranged from topics of disruption to commercial shipping caused by pirate attacks, the international response to these global criminal networks, and Somalia’s role in the regional challenges.
