13th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit

13th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit

The 13th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) will be held in New Delhi from January 31 to February 2. Themed ‘Protecting The Global Commons: 20 Years Post Rio,’ it will be attended by Heads of Governments of various countries, research institutions, policy-makers, NGOs and corporates, among others.

The debates of this year’s event intend to further the resolutions of the Rio+20 Conference outlined in ‘The Future We Want’ document – which aims to overcome the challenges posed to resource efficient growth and development; identifying ways to implement inclusive and equitable economic growth, and generating greater opportunities and reduction of inequalities across the globe, also find a place in the agenda.

Subjects of discussion include ‘Making Individual Mobility Low Carbon and Sustainable,’ ‘Governance and Management Challenges in Water Use Efficiency,’ ‘Learning from Green Growth Initiatives in Asia,’ and ‘Thematic Consultation On Energy: Post-2015 Development Agenda and the Energy Future We Want for All,’ to name a few.

Given how India is an energy starved nation, and how our energy supply depends heavily on the currently turbulent West-Asian sources, it would bode well for India to explore and develop renewable energy resources.

The DSDS has is an annual even organised by The Energy and Resources Institute, since 2001. Till date, 33 Heads of State and ministers from over 43 countries have registered their presence at the Summit.
