Prime Minister’s visit to Bhutan

Prime Minister's visit to Bhutan

Between 17-18 August 2019, the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi paid a State Visit to Bhutan. This was among the first bilateral visits by the PM since assuming office for the second time in May 2019. The visit reflects the high priority that the Indian Government attaches to its relations with Bhutan. This visit is in line with GoI’s continued emphasis on its ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’.

Prime Minister Modi had an audience with His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, The King of Bhutan. He also held talks with Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr. Tshering. The two Prime Ministers formally launched the facility which issued the use of Indian-issued RuPay cards in Bhutan. They also exchanged a number of MoUs. Both sides reaffirmed their shared security interests and reiterated their commitment to maintain close co-ordination on matters affecting each other’s security and national interests.
