Iraq crisis: India ‘concerned’ over unrest

India said it was deeply concerned over the security situation in Iraq, a key supplier of crude oil to Asia’s third-largest economy, as New Delhi backed the Iraqi authorities in its fight against terrorism and the recent Islamic militant offensive in the oil-rich country. “The government of India is deeply concerned with deteriorating security situation in Iraq, resulting out of recent attacks and taking over of some cities, including of Mosul and Tikrit by terrorist outfits since 8 June 2014, which is a direct threat to the security and territorial integrity of Iraq,” Syed Akbaruddin, spokesperson of the ministry of external affairs, said in a statement on Monday.
