Aligning Aspirations and Expectations: the Future of G7-G20 Relations

Germany and Indonesia have recently handed over their G7 and G20 presidencies respectively, to Japan and India to lead in 2023. These are challenging times for all four countries, which have to manage these prestigious groupings in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis. It has grown more complicated as the gap between the goals of the G7 and the G20, have grown. To discuss these issues, look ahead to collaboration under the new presidencies, Indonesia’s T20 Sherpa the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), organized the 6th KAS-CSIS Germany-Indonesia Strategic Dialogue. The Dialogue, held on 28-29 November, 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia, discussed the aspirations, expectations, and the future of G7 and G20, based on the result of 2022’s G7 and G20 Summitries. Manjeet Kripalani, Executive Director, Gateway House, was a panelist at the Dialogue sessions.
