The new leadership in Pakistan and its implications for business in India

On May 23, Gateway House, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai, hosted a round-table discussion themed ‘The new leadership in Pakistan and its implications for business in India.

Ambassador Neelam Deo, Director, Gateway House, and Richard Bale, Consul General of Canada, discussed the future of India-Pakistan business relations with representatives from businesses, think tanks and media.

Ambassador Neelam Deo is Director of Gateway House: Indian Council on Global Relations and former Ambassador to Denmark and former Joint Secretary for Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. She is also a Distinguished Fellow with the Centre for Air Power Studies, and sits on the board of Breakthrough (a human rights organization), Oxfam India and Morgan Stanley Mutual Fund.

Richard Bale is the Consulate General of Canada in Mumbai. He joined the Canadian Department of External Affairs in 1986 after having worked in Africa with CUSO from 1981 to 1983. Previously, he was Senior Trade Commissioner in Islamabad (1998 to 2000), Manila (2000 to 2004) and Taipei (2005 to 2007). In Taipei, he also served as Director of General Relations from 2004 to 2005. In Ottawa, Mr. Bale served as trade policy officer (1986 to 1987), trade development officer (1987 to 1988) and export finance officer (1995 to 1998).
