Ajit Doval, former Director of the Intelligence Bureau, has taken charge as India’s National Security Advisor. Sameer Patil, Associate National Security Fellow, Gateway House, lists the top 3 challenges for the new NSA.

  • Strengthen India’s counter-terrorism apparatus which is mired in turf battles between the two premier intelligence agencies: Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).
  • Develop a human intelligence network in Pakistan which has been neglected for many decades
  • Quickly implement the Bharatiya Janata Party’s poll promise of creating a National Maritime Authority to focus on coastal security.
