Indian court sentences five men to death for 2006 train blasts

Sameer Patil, National Security Fellow, Gateway House, was quoted, from his interview with AFP, by Channel News Asia on death sentences handed out by an Indian court to five people for the 2006 Mumbai train attacks.

“The whole process could take a year,” terrorism and security expert Sameer Patil at think-tank Gateway House told AFP.
The Supreme Court has said that capital punishment should only be carried out in “the rarest of rare” cases in India, among a dwindling group of nations that still have the death penalty on their statute books.
