Sanctions... and Counter-Sanctions

Gateway House co-hosted a Webcast with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung on 17th June 2021 at 5:00 pm IST on ‘Sanctions… and Counter-sanctions’.

The panel included: Dr Erica Moret, Senior Researcher, Global Governance Centre, IHEID and the Geneva Centre of Humanitarian Studies; Dr Ivan Timofeev, Director of Programmes, Russian International Affairs Council and Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri, Former Ambassador to Nepal, European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg and former Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the UN.

The discussion was moderated by Sameer Patil, Fellow, International Security Studies Programme, Gateway House. Opening remarks were given by Peter Max Rimmele, Resident Representative to India, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

The webcast discussed the emerging era of sanctions, counter-sanctions, their efficacy and India’s perspective in this free-for-all sanctions era. It does not favour unilateral sanctions, but it has been sanctioned in the past and continues to suffer due to the sanctions imposed on Russia and Iran.
