President of the United States Barack Obama will be in India on a three-day state visit from January 25-27. The visit comes four months after the meeting between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Obama in Washington DC.
President Obama is the first U.S. President to visit India twice, and the first U.S. President to be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations.
President Obama will be accompanied by the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama.
Obama is expected to arrive in New Delhi at 10 a.m. on January 25. Following his arrival he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and pay homage at the Raj Ghat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral discussions with President Obama at the Hyderabad House in a restricted format. The dialogue will be followed by a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Modi for the delegation which will be accompanied by delegation-level talks.
On January 26 President Obama will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day function, after which he will also attend the At Home reception of the President.
Prime Minister and President Obama will address business events during the course of the afternoon.
On January 27, President Obama is expected to address a select gathering in the morning. The First Lady and the President are also expected to visit Agra before their departure from New Delhi.
