Myanmar: Six months after the coup

As part of the diamond jubilee celebrations of Sri Venkateshwara College, University of Delhi, Ambassador Rajiv Bhatia, Distinguished Fellow, Gateway House, delivered the Distinguished Lecture on Myanmar – Six months after the coup: implications for India. While contextualising Myanmar’s history, society and politics, he dissected the motivations and repercussions of the military coup carried out on 1 February 2021. He explained its adverse impact on the country and the region, while also delineating specific implications for India. He advocated the view that India wisely followed a calibrated policy to protect its core interests and promote its democratic values. The lecture was followed by a Q & A session.
