From June 8-9, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on his first international trip after the elections to the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Modi and Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih held talks on June 8 and signed six MoUs/Technical Agreements in areas such as defence and maritime security. He also addressed a session of the Parliament of Maldives during which he discussed the need for peace in the Indo-Pacific region, and highlighted that state-sponsored terrorism is the largest threat we are facing today.

On June 9, Prime Minister Modi travelled to Sri Lanka and met with President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe and Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa. On his way to his meetings, he visited a Colombo Catholic church that was bombed during the Easter suicide attacks.
