India's Foreign Minister visits Singapore

India’s External Affairs Minister, S.M.Krishna will be visiting Singapore from March 8-11. During his visit he is expected to address the regional conference of Heads of Indian Missions in ASEAN countries. “The two-day conference will review India’s relations with the ASEAN countries and formulate strategies to enhance relations in the overall context of our Look East Policy,” the MEA said in a statement.

Singapore is India’s largest trade and investment partner in ASEAN. There are estimated to be about 4,000 registered Indian companies in Singapore. Moreover, there is also a large Indian community in Singapore; ethnic Indians constitute about 9.2% of the total population of 5.1 million, including permanent residents.

Krishna will also meet his Singaporean counterpart, K Shanmugam, and deliver a public lecture at the Institute of South Asian Studies.
