Indian Vice-President visits Peru, Cuba and UK

Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari will visit Peru, Cuba and the United Kingdom from October 25-November 2.

During his visit to Peru, he is expected to meet President Ollanta Humala, his counterpart and First Vice-President of Peru, Marisol Espinoza Cruz, and Peruvian Foreign Minister and Minister for Foreign Trade & Tourism, Eda Rivas Franchini. Ansari is also expected to inaugurate the Cultural Festival of India in Lima to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Peru.

In Cuba, Ansari is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Raul Castro, and his counterpart and First Vice-President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez on October 30. He is also expected to inaugurate the Cultural Festival of India in Havana.

In the last leg of his tour, Ansari is expected to deliver a public lecture at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies on the theme ‘Identity and Citizenship.’

New Delhi and Lima share warm bilateral ties. In 2012, bilateral trade between the two sides stood at $ 1.68 billion.

India and Cuba have seen active cooperation in the fields of energy, biotechnology and sports.
