India-U.S 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue

U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and Secretary of Defence Mark T. Esper welcomed India’s Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh and Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar to Washington, D.C. for the second annual India-U.S. 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue. The Ministers reiterated their commitment to a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The United States reaffirmed its strong support for India’s permanent role in a reformed U.N. Security Council. They shared their commitment to fighting terrorism around the world and especially in Pakistan. The ministers committed to strengthening their defence partnership with the establishment of a new tri-service exercise -Tiger Triumph – that will be held annually. Both countries signed the Industrial Security Annex (ISA) which will enable the transfer of classified technology and information between the two countries’ defence industries which will eventually lead to coproduction. Apart from military collaboration, the ministers welcomed enhanced energy and resource cooperation and welcomed the MOU that promotes technical cooperation in areas such as water quality and management. They welcomed the conclusion of a new Science and Technology Agreement, which will intensify collaboration on science, technology, particle research and innovation. India will host the next 2+2 Ministerial in 2020.
