India-Pakistan defense talks

India-Pakistan defense talks

Defence secretaries from India and Pakistan are to break a three year hiatus and discuss the long overdue issue of demilitarising the Siachen Glacier. The talks will take place on the 30 and 31 of May in New Delhi.

Siachen, the world’s highest militarised zone at an altitude of 20,000 ft, has been a matter of military debate since 1985, mainly over the Actual Ground Position Line (APGL) passing through the Soltoro Ridge and the Siachen glacier.

The Indian delegation, headed by Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, will meet Pakistan’s Defence Secretary Lt General (Retd) Syed Ather Ali for the 12th round of talks.
