Greek legislative elections – September 2015

Greek legislative elections - September 2015

Greece will hold their legislative elections on September 20, 2015. These are the second legislative elections in Greece this year after the vote in January 2015, where Alexis Tsipras was elected Prime Minister.

There are 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament, with 250 available in the election and the 50 remaining seats awarded to the party with the relative majority.

The elections come after Tsipras accepted a third bailout deal from European lenders, which was passed by the Greek government despite 43 members of the ruling Syriza party voting against it or abstaining, which in turn caused Tsipras to resign.

Regardless of the election results, the new Government will have to accept the conditions of the third bailout deal.
