General elections, Turkey

General elections, Turkey

Turkey will conduct its 17th general elections on June 12. The ruling party, Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP) will look at securing its third consecutive run in the elections.

Another major feature of the elections will be current Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ambition to secure a two-thirds majority required to create a new constitution.

Being a major global player in European and Arab affairs, the elections will have implications on current international affairs, such as the war on Afghanistan, Turkish-Israeli relations and its stand on the Palestine debate.
