On August 14, 2019, External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar received and had discussions with Special envoy from Malaysia, Minister P. Waytha Moorthy. The minister, was on an official working visit to India and conveyed the wishes of Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his landslide victory in the May election. His visit came after the Malaysian Prime Minister displayed his support for Pakistan in the recent Kashmir issue. Early this year, according to reports Malaysia was one of the few countries that had extended critical support to Pakistan to avoid Islamabad’s blacklisting at the meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The Malaysian PM had last week created a controversy when he asked “all stakeholders” on the Kashmir issue to abide by the relevant UNSC resolutions on J&K passed in 1948-49.
