The Foreign Minister of China, Yang Jiechi will visit India from February 29 – March 1. During his visit, he is expected to meet with his Indian counterpart – S.M.Krishna. While this is a preparatory meeting for Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to New Delhi in March for the BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) summit, discussions will also be held on a gamut of bilateral issues.

Announcing his visit, the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi said, “Yang is visiting India as part of the mutually agreed mechanism of annual exchange of visits at the level of Foreign Ministers. Both Ministers will also hold discussions on the forthcoming BRICS Summit to be held in New Delhi on 28-29 March.”

Jiechi may also meet with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon.
