From July 25-26, 2019, the BRICS Foreign Ministers meet was held in Brazil. Mr. V.K. Singh replaced External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to represent India. This is mainly because the BJP does not have a majority in the Rajya Sabha and required everyone to be present during the session over the weekend. Mr. Singh is the current MoS for road transport and highways, and was the former MoS for external affairs.
At the end of the meet, the ministers stated the need for a framework to combat terrorism which should include approaches to fight radicalization, recruitment within terrorist groups, travel of terrorists, and blocking the financing of terrorism. Brazil and India also held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the summit.
