Japan Times – Diamond deals to add sparkle to India-Russian ties

India’s gemstone industry is urging Russia to step up trade, by dealing directly with the global hub of cutting and polishing rather than involving middlemen elsewhere.

During a visit to New Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Indian leaders to strengthen trade and energy cooperation as Western sanctions bite.

Russia’s enormous diamond output, and in particular the path stones travel on their way to the cutting laboratory, was said to be high on the agenda.
