Australia’s prime minister said on Thursday (Sep 4) India offered an “abundance” of opportunity, on the first day of a visit during which he is expected to sign a long-awaited deal to sell uranium to the energy-starved nation.
Tony Abbott is expected to meet new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior ministers during a two-day visit also aimed at boosting trade. “The purpose of this trip, as far as I’m concerned, is to acknowledge the importance of India in the wider world, acknowledge the importance of India to Australia’s future,” he told business leaders in Mumbai. “There is an abundance of opportunities here in India. I am determined to make the most of them.”
