Badi Soch: Pakistan’s next government

This daily column includes Gateway House’s Badi Soch – big thought – of the day’s foreign policy events. Today’s focus is on the elections and new government in Pakistan.

It is unlikely that New Delhi will be able to engage Pakistan’s new government on historically outstanding issues such as Kashmir, with the current coalition government’s low credibility including over the terms of the recent Chinese pullout from eastern Ladakh. We could instead engage Pakistan to improve its economic prospects – that is its most urgent need. The initiative to offer 500 MW electricity could be a valuable start.
