This article attempts to explain the current crisis facing the world, and in particular many European countries, relating to sovereign debt and the consequent crisis, in simple layman’s terms. It also suggests how best India can weather this crisis.

Dr. Lalit S. Kanodia graduated in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Bombay. He has secured his MBA and Ph.D. in Management at the MIT, USA. A recipient of the Ford Foundation Fellowship at MIT, USA, Dr. Kanodia has had a brilliant academic record. Dr. Kanodia has taught MBA students both in USA and in India. A consultant to numerous companies, he was the Founder CEO of the Tata Consultancy Services. The Founder Chairman of the Datamatics Group of Companies, he is on the Board of Directors of several companies. He has served as past President of the Management Consultants Association of India and is a Member on various committees and councils. He is a member of the Board of the Sloan School of Management, MIT. He is an international consultant and has extensively traveled worldwide for over five decades. He has been honoured with the distinguished Alumnus Award of the IIT, Bombay, and is the only software professional to have been featured in the DataQuest “Hall of Fame”. Based on his extensive personal experience, Dr. Kanodia authors serious articles on the issues of economic development, particularly relating to that of India, with the objective of focusing the policy makers’ attention on critical issues that may take the country on the path of becoming an economic superpower.
