Emerging India’s response to a rising China

Emerging India’s response to a rising China

On July 4, Gateway House hosted a private meeting with Ambassador Vinod C. Khanna (Former Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Cuba and Indonesia) to discuss “Emerging India’s response to a rising China”.

The discussion, facilitated by Ambassador Neelam Deo (Former Indian Ambassador to Denmark and Ivory Coast and Director, Gateway House), addressed the complexities between the Sino-Indian relationship locked in decades-long disputes over territory, water, trade and economic tensions. Some of the questions addressed were: What are the implications of China’s close ties with India’s neighbours, especially Pakistan? What role will the United States play in the India-China relationship? Will India and China ever reach a reasonable settlement on sovereignty and security issues, if so, how will their relationship shape geopolitics in the 21st century?
