R. Viswanathan
Indian Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay

R. Viswanathan is the Indian Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay since October 2007. He was earlier the Ambassador to Venezuela and served as Consul General of India in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has headed the Ministry of External Affairs’ division on Latin America and Caribbean, as well as its Investment and Trade Promotion Division.  

According to his website, Ambassador Viswanathan, a self-confessed Latinophile, regards Venezuelan leader Simon Bolivar and Argentine revolutionary Che Guevera as his heroes. A chemistry lecturer by profession, he has specialised in Latin America since 1996 and has been a regular contributor newspapers and business journals, besides giving lectures on the subject at think tanks and universities across India, Latin America and the United States.

He is fluent in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Portuñol.
