On 5-7 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Myanmar. He met with Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and visited several historical and significant places in Maynamr such as the heritage city of Bagan and a Hindu temple. They held discussions on the violence in the state of Rakhine, progress on several infrastructure projects, futhering India’s ‘Act East’ policy in Myanmar etc. He also spoke about a possible trilateral highway project connecting India’s northeast with Myanmar and Thailand.
