President of Bangladesh to visit India

President of Bangladesh to visit India

Bangladesh’s President Mohammad Abdul Hamid will arrive in New Delhi on December 18 on a two-day visit. This is the first visit by a non-executive Head of State from Bangladesh to India.

Hamid’s visit comes in the backdrop of India making efforts to pass the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with Bangladesh in the on-going winter session of the Parliament.

The implementation of the LBA was agreed between the previous UPA government and the Bangladesh government headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2011. Under the agreement, India will transfer 111 enclaves measuring 17, 160.63 acres to Bangladesh and will receive 51 enclaves measuring 7, 110.2 acres.

Post the Bangladeshi President’s visit, a visit by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka is being considered, as the first outgoing visit in 2015.
