Malaysian PM Najib Razak visits India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to H.E. Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia to India culminated in a State Visit to India from March 30 to April 4, 2017. Razak met with the President of India Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President of India Hamid Ansari and held bilateral talks with Modi. This visit marked 60 years of diplomatic relations with India and was a reciprocal visit to Modi’s visit to the East Asia Summit.

Modi and Razak reaffirmed their commitment to fight extremism, and Razak shared information on Malaysia’s knowledge and experience about their deradicalisaton programme. They decided to revitalise the bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) , and signed memoranda of understanding on topics covering education, development of urea and ammonia manufacturing, culture, highway construction, the building of solar power plants, palm oil development, technology and air services. The Indian and Malaysian business leaders signed one of the biggest trade deals amounting to USD 36billion. Lastly they issued a joint statement on the need for freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea.
